Augustine Thomas Obituary

Portrait of a Beautiful Life

God showered His wonderful blessings upon the late Belle LeDay and Felton Brown with the birth of their beautiful baby girl in Dubisson, LA, and the name Augustine Brown was given to her. Augustine, so fondly called “Gus,” was the fifth and last living child of twelve children.

Augustine accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and was baptized. In 1953, Gus met and married the love of her life, Leroy Thomas, to this union eight children were born.

Gus was adamant about education and went back to school and obtained her GED in 1975. She enjoyed going to bingo, playing card games, and family gatherings to fellowship, cook, and make family memories. Gus believed in having strong family tides. Everybody wanted to be at Aunt Gus and grandma house for fun and family  story telling. She loved dogs and made sure they ate too. Gus’s legacy though broken at this time, will continue to gather and share momma and grandma memories to carry own to generations to come.

After living in Port Arthur, Tx for many years, Gus relocated to Lake Charles, La. She was employed with several jobs, but her pride was raising four generations. Her family was her life and joy. She was the rock and guiding light for her family and others.

“Gus,” 93, was an adoring wife, a loving mother and gentle grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She gave unconditional love and endless support to every member of her entire family. She had a heart of gold and showed selfless love, and kindness to many others.

Above all, Gus lived and trusted the Lord until God called her to her heavenly home on Saturday, January 17, 2026, surrounded by her devoted family in Lafayette, La.

“Gus” was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Felton (Belle) Brown; her husband, Leroy Thomas; one daughter, Ruby “Butt ”Lee Phils; one son, Clayton “Tee” Thomas; two grandchildren; one great great grandchild; three sisters, Della, Lucy, and Frances; and eight brothers, Elton, Samuel, Joseph, Shelton, Harold, Melvin, Louis and Lenette.

She leaves in loving memory two daughters, Linda Thomas of Lake Charles, LA, and Roxanne Cullivan (Felton) of Lafayette, LA, and four sons, Lionell Thomas, Leroy Thomas (Debra), and Samuel Thomas of Lake Charles, LA, and Pionell Thomas (Linda) of Port Arthur, Texas; along with thirteen grandchildren, forty-six great-grandchildren, and eleven great-great-grandchildren.
