Lionell "PeeWee" Thomas Obituary

Obituary for Lionell “PeeWee” Thomas

Today, we gather with heavy hearts, yet grateful spirits, to celebrate and honor the life and legacy of Lionell “PeeWee” Thomas.

Lionell was born on July 1, 1955, to the late Leroy Sr. and Augustine “Brown” Thomas in Lafayette, La. On February 17, 2026, God called him home, and he peacefully entered eternal rest.

From an early age, Lionell accepted Christ and was baptized, laying the foundation for a life rooted in faith, love, and compassion.

Affectionately known as “PeeWee,” Lionell was known for his joyful spirit, warm heart, and unforgettable personality. He had a special gift for making people smile and bringing laughter wherever he went. Truly, he was the life of the party.

Lionell worked faithfully for many years as a custodian before retiring from PAISD. He found great joy in life’s simple pleasures—dancing, watching western movies, football games, and, most of all, spending time with his beloved family. His presence lit up every room, and his love left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Lionell was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Leroy Sr. and Augustine “Brown” Thomas; his sister, Ruby “Lee” Phills; his brother, Clayton “Tee” Thomas; and his granddaughter, Jayonna Landry.

Lionell leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted daughter, LaJeanna Thomas of Lake Charles, La; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He is also survived by his loving sisters, Linda Thomas of Lake Charles, La and Roxanne Cullivan (Felton) of Lafayette, La; and his brothers, Pionell Thomas of Port Arthur, Tx, Leroy Thomas Jr. (Debra) and Samuel Thomas of Lake Charles, La; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.

Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that Lionell’s life was one of purpose, joy, and love. His laughter, kindness, and gentle spirit will continue to live on through the memories we share and the love he poured into each of us. While he may no longer walk beside us, his spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
